Why donate to From the Top?

You know From the Top from our NPR radio show and our PBS television series From the Top at Carnegie Hall. But did you know that From the Top is a national leader in music education programs?

From the Top is an independent non-profit, so we rely on the support of friends like you to produce our broadcasts and bring our outstanding programs to communities across the country.

Our unparalleled audio and video archives form the basis of lesson plans distributed every week to over 100,000 teachers, and our musicians are featured in McGraw-Hill textbooks used by millions of schoolchildren. We sponsor "Make Your Own Radio Show" artist residencies, and From the Top musicians visit schools and community centers to share their passion for music directly with their peers. Every year, we award 25 scholarships of $10,000 to outstanding young musicians with financial need.

Melody Lindsay, a fourteen-year-old harpist wrote us to say, "This past summer I met up with two other From the Top alumni. I was struck by the fact that all three of us felt it was the most incredible experience of our lives. It gave us the opportunity to share our gifts with the world and inspire other kids to dream."

Every time we visit a classroom we succeed in opening new ears to the world of classical music. During a recent program at an elementary school in Boston, one of the kindergarteners ran up and hugged 17-year-old cellist Sebastian Baverstam. Sebastian was a bit taken aback, until the little guy looked up said in a small voice, "Excuse me, I wanted to tell you that I like that kind of music!" Then he ran off.
